The families of young people lost after a devastating inferno at a bar in a Swiss alpine town are facing an agonising period of uncertainty for answers and requesting information about their family members via social media.

The inferno devastated the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Confirmed footage reveal the ceiling igniting as beverages with fireworks are held aloft.

Authorities have warned that it could take an extended period to identify the victims of the fire, which resulted in the death of 40 people and hurt another scores more. A spokesperson noted on the latest update that 113 of the those hurt have been identified, with efforts continuing to name the final individuals.

In the meantime, relatives have been using online platforms to plead for any news about their loved ones who were at the bar that evening.

Appeals for the Missing

The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are not yet determined, according to an heartfelt request from his parent.

The resident of a town near Lausanne, explained to a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in the capital, but could not find him.

"This is a living nightmare, a nightmare. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. Words cannot describe it," she said.

She continued that some of his peers had been discovered with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they experienced a terrifying ordeal."

The Italian government has said that six of its young people remain missing.

Junior golfer Emanuele Galeppini, sixteen, was last in contact around the turn of the new year on New Year's Eve, his father said.

Other Cases

Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also among the missing. His parent told reporters that he had been on vacation but had gone out with friends and found himself at the venue.

"A companion informed me they escaped after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he couldn't see him anymore," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.

One of his educators said, "I've always been struck by his good nature and smile, combined with great responsibility. He would frequently offer to help out."

Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives full-time in the country, was also at the bar on that night, according to reports.

Her sibling has shared an urgent request on social media, saying the family has had "no news" regarding the 15-year-old or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.

Consular authorities from her country of origin say they are continuing to monitor the developments.
