Jennifer Lawrence Says Discussing Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Country Apart

The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer suitable to comment publicly against the Trump administration, worried it could exacerbate divisive discussions and increase separation throughout the United States.

‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Notes Lawrence

During a discussion, the Oscar winner shared, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was moving hastily without clear direction. But experience has shown, election after election, celebrities have no real impact in any way on who people vote for.”

She continued, “What’s the point? I’m just voicing my thoughts on an issue that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Jennifer Lawrence has previously been open about voting for both right and leftwing presidential nominees over the years. Growing up with conservative Republicans in her home state, she voted for John McCain in 2008 before joining the Democratic party and stating she recognized during the Obama era that voting Republican was voting against her own rights as a female citizen.

Previous Comments

Earlier in her career, she remarked that Trump winning the presidency would be “the end of the world” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to the Democratic nominee, “since I feel she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to safeguard abortion access.”

Celebrity Views

The star was supported by numerous celebrities in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a returning figure, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the electoral decisions was underscored by Trump’s victory.

“This upcoming term appears changed,” said the actress of Trump’s presidency. “Because he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for four years. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”

Latest Film

Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she plays a new mother who struggles with her mental health in a remote area. At a interview session for the project in Venice, she commented on the conflict in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s happening is nothing short of a genocide and it’s horrible.”

Broader Concerns

The actress elaborated by stating that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the discussions of American politics at present and how that is going to be accepted to the kids today. It’s going to be typical to them that elected officials deceive.”

She sought to redirect outrage about the conflict to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Stay focused on who is responsible,” she advised, which was interpreted as a nod to the then-recent pledge endorsed by numerous arts community members to refuse engagement with Israeli film institutions.

Relatable Experiences

Lawrence, who received an Academy Award aged 22 for her part in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in Die, My Love. While Lynne Ramsay has disputed the plot being understood as one of postpartum depression and psychosis, Lawrence said that she identified with aspects of her character’s journey after the birth of her youngest child, soon after production wrapped.

“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she commented, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I began using a treatment called Zurzuvae and I used it for a short period and it made a difference.”

Film Challenges

Lawrence also spoke regarding the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the project while she was some months pregnant and unable to exercise.

“It’s refreshing,” she said, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “Honestly, I do have moments where I’m like, What technically are the differences between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
