🔗 Share this article Apex Legends' Niche Traversal Techniques Are Going Mainstream During This Update The game developers has a special treat prepared for the popular battle royale gamers, perfectly timed for the holidays. Fans of the battle royale's super-slick traversal will be pleased to discover that an innovative traversal feature will be introduced when the Amped season launches on Nov. 4. Unveiling The Mantle Boost Named "Momentum Boosting" by the developers, this feature gives players a surge of propulsion when climbing over ledges and walls. As explained key developer the design lead, Mantle Boosting has unofficially been a feature of the game for quite a while, usually referred to as "ledge boosting." But it's challenging for casual gamers, and typically employed by competitive players in Ranked Mode or esports competitions. This season, Respawn is making it easier for players of all skill levels to execute these tricky speed-boosts. "This technique have been in Apex for a while, but the movement requires skill to perform and a player might not realize it [is in the game] without outside knowledge," Canavese states. "We're adding a visual cue so players can easily see when and how to trigger the fast-paced traversal skill, making accessible the feature and introducing fresh strategies to play for more players." Why Opening Up Advanced Mechanics What's the reason for making a previously obscure technique accessible to all players? Principal designer Josh Mohan explains the team aims for gamers to experience empowerment — even those who are inexperienced. "[The playerbase] performs other crazy stuff like super-glides and tap-strafes, and we looked around at our competition, looked at what the community execute, and we said, 'How can we extend these capabilities to a broader audience?'" the designer explains. "Because currently, some of these techniques are kind of janky to use — it requires to remap your keybinds and execute within one-frame windows. So we said, 'How about we make a more official implementation?'" Season 27 Emphasis on Mobility Mobility is primarily the name of the game in Season 27, with characters Horizon, Rampart, and the aerial combatant all getting enhancements to help keep them in motion. Recovery time on Horizon's Gravity Lift is shorter, and the Gravity Lift will boost players into the air faster than it used to. Her defensive walls feature a roof and capability to grant speed boosts to those nearby. But the spotlight is on the high-flying Valkyrie who's getting the most attention now, with various adjustments applied to enhance her as stronger, quicker, and deadlier. "I think many agree that her moment has arrived," states Legend designer Ian Holstead. "Certainly that she's been dominant in the past, but with the introduction of new Legends, movement[-based] passives, and Evac Towers, it felt like she's not very relevant in today's the game. This presented a really great opportunity for us to revisit multiple elements in her abilities and essentially restore her to former prominence." Enhancements to the Aerial Legend To reclaim her competitive status in current strategies, the developer notes the team evaluated all her skills and introduced some powerful changes. Her VTOL Jets have been upgraded, boosting velocity while airborne, and this equipment now recharge much quicker, allowing her to spend more time aloft. Now she won't be harmed from her own Missile Swarm, which was enhanced to mark enemies who take damage from the missiles. Her squad redeploy ability — which lifts teammates into the air for redeployment or escape — requires much less time to fire up. Additionally, she gains recently added Legend Upgrades that players can select to reduce fuel consumption, widen the area of her rockets, or accelerate her Skyward Dive activation. "Valkyrie's equipment fulfills that jet-fighter fantasy," he says. Map Changes Even the game's lone airborne map, this location, receives a movement-friendly overhaul, with an extensive redesign that opens up bottlenecks and makes securing elevated positions more manageable. The developers state Apex Legends this update is all about providing gamers the tools required to compete in the competition. "Really, we examined Apex's core identity as a fast-paced FPS," explains principal designer Josh Mohan. The battle royale the Amped season launches November 4th at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
