🔗 Share this article Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3. During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit. A Major Commitment In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters. "My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come." Executive Acclaim Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat style. "All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Comforting Counterpoint When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this charming family go about their daily lives. In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts. “It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.” Future Seasons Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan. The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
