The Transport Department has revealed the visual identity for GBR, signifying a major step in its agenda to take the railways back into state hands.

An National Design and Familiar Symbol

The new livery features a patriotic colour scheme to represent the national flag and will be applied on GBR trains, at railway stations, and across its website and app.

Significantly, the logo is the recognisable double-arrow logo presently used by National Rail and first introduced in the mid-20th century for the former state operator.

A Implementation Plan

The introduction of the design, which was designed internally, is expected to happen gradually.

Travellers are scheduled to start noticing the freshly-liveried trains across the UK rail network from spring next year.

Throughout the month of December, the design will be showcased at prominent stations, including Manchester Piccadilly.

A Journey to Nationalisation

The proposed law, which will allow the establishment of GBR, is presently progressing through the legislative process.

The administration has argued it is renationalising the railways so the system is "run by the public, operating for the passengers, not for private shareholders."

Great British Railways will unify the running of train services and tracks and signals under a unified structure.

The department has claimed it will merge 17 different entities and "reduce the problematic red tape and accountability gap that hinders the railways."

App-Based Services and Existing Ownership

The introduction of Great British Railways will also involve a new app, which will let users to view train times and purchase tickets free from surcharges.

Passengers with disabilities travellers will also be able to use the app to arrange assistance.

A number of train companies had earlier been taken into public control under the outgoing administration, such as Northern.

There are now 7 train operators now in state ownership, representing about a third of passenger trips.

In the past year, South Western Railway have been nationalised, with further franchises expected to follow in the coming years.

Ministerial and Industry Response

"This is not simply a paint job," said the relevant minister. It signifies "a fresh start, shedding the problems of the past and concentrated entirely on delivering a reliable passenger-focused service."

Rail figures have welcomed the government's commitment to bettering services.

"The industry will continue to work closely with relevant bodies to ensure a successful changeover to the new system," one executive added.
